Progymnasmata Tutorial: Beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced (CRT)
|
|
Each six-week Progymnasmata session includes up to twelve exercises and evaluations, equivalent to half a semester's work, as follows:
Beginning: Narrative, Fable, Proverb (7th grade and up)
Intermediate: Description, Anecdote, Refutation/Confirmation (9th grade and up)
Advanced: Common Topic, Encomium/Invective (Praise/Blame), Comparison, Characterization, Description, Thesis, Proposal of Law (10th grade and up, requires at least two sessions to cover all the topics)
Multiple sessions may include additional practice at each level, which we will agree on together, based on the student's performance. Younger students, for example, might stay at the beginning level for a second session, doing additional exercises at that level. Four sessions constitute a full year and a full high school credit. Consider combining two sessions of Progymnasmata with your own literature study to make a full credit of English for the year.
Enrollment at any level includes acess to all Progymnasmata Workbooks and the teacher-oriented "The Progymnasmata: Preliminary Rhetoric Exercises (Part One)."
Please explore this site for more information on the Progymnasmata. You need not understand this ancient rhetoric technique to benefit greatly from this series of exercises--they fit beautifully into modern writing tasks!
